November 2nd, 2002 - 9AM CST:
We've all been up since the wee hours this morning... trying to
be patient until we can go back in and see my Abba. Overnight reports
from the nurses are that, although he didn't sleep much, he reports
that his pain and Nassau has already begun to reduce (attributed
in large part to his powerful will to heal). We'll be back at the
hospital today and as soon as there is anything new to report (or
pictures to post) I'll be sure to add them to the website. I'll
also update the voicemail as soon as possible. Remember - no visiting
the hospital unannounced. Wait until we post the green light on the
website.
November 2, 2002 - 1PM CST:
Just came down from my Abba's room in the ICU. We had a long chat
about all the things he remembered from yesterday and how well he's
progressing. He's in high spirits and even had the energy to joke
about how peeing through a tube was an out of body experience. As
I was leaving his room, the doctor was outside signing the order
to move him to a recovery room. He looks like he needs to take a
knap and I don't think he'll do that if we give him an opportunity
to continue to visit so we are still asking for no visitors at this
point but by tomorrow he'll probably be able to at least take select
phone calls. We brought in your e-mails - printed out - and your
voicemails - on audiocassette - and he'll have a chance to go through
them a bit later. In a bit we'll post some pictures of him... and
maybe even a small video message from him (if I can manage to get
the tech working on that). Just to give you an idea of just how
well he's progressed, he was up sitting in a chair for a solid three
hours today and was also able to talk briefly to his parents on
the phone. He again expressed how important it was to him that you
have all sent messages and blessings. He believes that this was
the secret to his success. Thank you all so much for that. Check
back later for more updates.
November 2, 2002 - 8PM CST:
By the time we left my Abba's room he had been taken off the I-V
and cath, was eating Jello and drinking ice water, and was able
to get out of bed and walk around. When we left, he was plugged
in to his mini-disc player and was relaxing to some Enya. As promised,
we've added some pictures of my Abba to the site... but let's be
honest... do members of my family ever do anything less than bigger
than life? So... these images... well... I'll let you see
for yourself. Enjoy!
